Water Meters A water meter is required for all accounts that receive water service. Your meter is read approximately every 30 days. The date that meter reading begins is posted on the Event and Meeting Calendar; keep in mind that meter reading takes from 1-3 weeks, depending on staff resources and weather. You'll recognize the District meter reader by his or her uniform and the District vehicle which may be parked nearby. If you are not satisfied that he or she is a District employee, ask for further identification. If your meter has been damaged or is inaccessible for some reason, an estimate based on past consumption will be made and the problem will be remedied as quickly as possible. In any case, the next available meter reading will provide you with the actual usage during the estimated consumption period. If you believe your meter is not functioning properly, please contact us and we will send a technician to investigate high or low usage at no charge to you. There are currently two types of meters in the District: manually-read meter (many of which date back to the earliest days of the water utility in this area), and electronic meters. The older meters must be read manually; the electronic meters broadcast a radio signal that is read with an electronic device. Electronic meters are read more accurately and more quickly; further, customers may purchase an optional Water Meter Monitor that allows them to monitor water usage and be notified by an alarm if water usage is unusually high. The District is beginning to replace the older meters with radio-transmitting meters as funds are available. See the brochure at right for more information. In winter, water meters can freeze if the cover is removed during extremely cold conditions. This is why meter reading may be delayed in the winter owing to cold weather. So, please do not check your manually-read meter when the weather is below freezing.
Important. Do not open the lids on radio-transmitting meters. You can cause damage to the meter and will incur a fine. Content Last Updated 9/7/2010 |
