The District has regularly scheduled elections for the purpose of election of Board members and may schedule additional elections as needed (e.g., when ratepayer and taxpayer approval is needed for additional indebtedness).  Below you will find general information about District elections.

Terms for Board of Directors  
Board Directors are elected to perform the duties of the office of Director of Eldorado Water & Sanitation District, including exercising the utmost good faith, business sense, and astuteness on behalf of the District.

Each of the District's five Board Members serves a four-year, over-lapping term, meaning that generally every two years either three members or two members are elected to the Board.  Vacancies on the Board are filled by appointment by the remaining directors, the appointee to serve until the next regular election, at which time the vacancy is filled by election for any remaining unexpired portion of the term.

Timing of Elections
Elections are held on the second Tuesday (after the first Monday) in January of odd-numbered years.
 
Candidate Qualifications
Directors must be electors (i.e., eligible voters) of the District as defined by State law.

Eligible Voters
A qualified elector is a person who:

   Is registered to vote in ANY precinct in New Mexico, AND
      fits into at least ONE of the following three categories:
          1.  Resides in the District;
      OR
          2.  Pays or is liable to pay any rates, tolls, or charges set by the District;
      OR
          3.  Has paid or incurred a tax liability on property within the District during the past 12 months.

A partnership, corporation or trust is not a "person" and therefore a person owning property through such a legal entity is not eligible to vote.
